ACTIVATED SLUDGE started with the concept of having no concept. It was originally being approached as a kind of “beat tape” - a quickly assembled collection of tunes that just needed to be polished up and let go. A bit of psychic spring-cleaning, that surely wouldn’t take long to complete - maybe a couple of weeks.

6 months later, these tracks have been completely re-worked, re-built, re-mixed and re-arranged, with patterns and motifs emerging along the way. The result is, unexpectedly, actually something of a fitting follow-up to OP’s 2022 album STEPPING IT LIGHTLY TOWARDS THE ABYSS (described in The Wire magazine as “poised to anchor an eternal afterhours dance party hosted by ghouls”).

The result is a journey through shambling beats that explore the low end, more high tempo numbers for that ghoulish rave, syrupy psychedelic drones, and fleeting chirps from other dimensions. Conceptually, these tunes call for re-invention, micro and macro, physically, mentally and spiritually.

Or maybe it’s just a collection of weird beats and noisy stompers.
